How To Put The Fun In Cardio

By Lauren Jones

We all know that cardio is not the most exciting thing to do. Having to spend 30+ minutes on the treadmill daily can definitely have you dreading coming to the gym. Since skipping cardio all together isn’t an option, you must get creative to keep yourself motivated and eager to burn some fat. Incorporating a new form of cardio into your regimen might actually make cardio enjoyable. Here are a few ideas worth adding to your workouts.

A simple change you can make to your cardio routine is moving it outdoors. A change of scenery may help you keep your  running, walking, or biking interesting. This gives you the option of changing your route everyday and allowing you to go on a series of mini adventures. If you’re looking for more of a challenge, find a hill and do some incline running or biking. If hills aren’t your cup of tea, you can always take a trip to the beach and do a nice jog on a sandy beach.

Another great cardio option is a rowing machine. If your gym has one available, consider yourself lucky. This machine allows you to burn hundreds of calories by working your entire body and offering a high intensity workout that is also low impact. The resistance options on the rower allow you to do intense sprints or slower, distance rows.
If you’re trying to do something out of the norm, try skateboarding or rollerblading. The equipment needed is minimal and they are a lot of fun! Don’t worry, you won’t need to grind rails and do crazy tricks. Just the act of pushing off and balancing will have you burning calories. These activities enable you to get your cardio in without the monotony of being on a treadmill.

Don’t let the same old boring cardio routine impede your fitness journey. Keeping things interesting may help you to stay consistent with your cardio schedule and motivated accomplish your goals.
